Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the initial treatment?
The initial treatment is 45 minutes.

What kind of clothing should I wear to my treatment?
Comfortable loose fitting shorts, sports bra, underwear and a tank top are all recommended types of clothing for treatment.  While yoga/capri pants are comfortable, they are not ideal for treatment.  It is also recommended that lotions not be applied to the skin before a treatment session.

Are treatments covered by insurance?
Yes, if your insurance company includes coverage for Massage Therapy in BC by an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist). It is recommended that you contact your provider for your plan's details.  I do not bill insurance companies directly. Full payment is made by patients for services rendered upon completion of a session. Receipts are then provided and can be remitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. This also applies to ICBC accidents and WCB claims.

What type of payment do you accept?
I accept cash or cheque payable at the completion of each session.

Why must it be gentle?
Anytime the body is forced, it perceives force as a threat and has to tense and flinch in protection. Therefore, it is critical that therapists work within the tolerance of the body without pushing through the pain barrier (“No Pain – No Gain” is counterproductive in this instance). Being gentle, the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach™ enables the body to naturally self correct, unwind, and authentically heal at the cellular level.

What does a treatment include?
A session with your therapist may include any or all of the following: interview, assessment, hands-on therapeutic treatment, and home-care stretches/exercises.

Why do you want my medical history?
Accidents, surgeries, falls, scars and any other traumas can cause tightness and restriction throughout the fascial system which can be directly related to your symptoms. Getting an overview of your history allows the therapist to better target areas of restriction that contribute to your symptoms.

Why look at my posture and/or measure my joints during assessment?
Limited joint motion and imbalanced posture can indicate where you have fascial restrictions. This information, combined with your history and symptoms provides a thorough foundation on which to start Myofascial Release treatment. The therapist can then focus on areas that need to be released.
